A New Sense of Taste

• The psalmist tells us that believers can “taste and see that the Lord is good!”
  [1] 
• The Apostle Peter said of believers, “…you have tasted that the Lord is good.”[2]

The soul of every person has a hunger and thirst built into it at creation.  It says in Ecclesiastes 3:11, “he has put eternity into man’s heart.”  In other words, God has made us to know that this world is not all there is.  It’s part of our nature to seek God until we find Him.  

Augustine once said, “Thou hast made us for thyself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee.”

David said in Psalm 42:1-2, “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. ² My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”  An unbeliever may not know that their hunger and thirst is for God, but they know something is missing.  Often they will try to substitute that hunger and thirst for something far less fulfilling.  Like trying to replace water with soda, trying to quench our spiritual thirst apart from the pursuit of God will only leave us thirstier.

God has put this desire for eternity in our hearts and the pleasures of this world are never enough to provide lasting satisfaction.  Satisfaction is only found in Jesus.  Those who have trusted in Jesus have found the spiritual food and drink they need to finally be satisfied.  Only Jesus can satisfy!
