The Bible says that God made the heavens and the earth in 6 days by speaking it into existence.

  • This God is a Being with power that is unfathomable and unmatched anywhere else in the universe.
  • This God is the Creator of life and the One who developed the very essence of existence.  We are because He is!

Jeremiah exclaims (in Jeremiah 32:17), “ ‘Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you.”  Faith believes that nothing we can imagine is impossible for a God who wields unlimited power and wisdom and strength.

Romans 4:17 recalls the promise God made to Abraham.  It says, “’…I have made you the father of many nations…”

Faith does go beyond what is naturally possible, but it firmly places its trust on a real, powerful God who is fully capable of doing the extraordinary.  In Genesis 15, we read how God came to Abraham and told him that he would have a son.

Abraham was 100 years old.  In the natural it was biologically impossible for him to have a son.  Even worse, his wife, Sarah, was 80 years old and well beyond the age of being able to have a child.  To put it bluntly, her womb was dead.

Abraham was fully aware of their situation.  He was not ignoring the facts.  He could have looked at Sarah and said, “How could we believe that God could possibly ever fulfill that promise?”  But that’s not what he said.  He was fully aware that God’s promise was impossible naturally and biologically.  BUT… He had Faith.  He believed that God would follow through on His promises.

He trusted in a God who created life.  If God made the womb in the first place, He is totally capable of creating life from an infertile man and a post-menopausal woman.

Genesis 15:18 says,  “18 In hope he {Abraham} believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” 19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. 20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised.”

Abraham looked at the character and the trustworthiness and the power of the God who made the promise and instantly realized that there was nothing to be hopeless about.

  • It is impossible for God to lie.
  • It is impossible for God to break a promise.
  • Therefore it is impossible for God to leave His promise unfulfilled.

Abraham believed God… He believed that God was able to do what He had promised.  AND both Paul and James declare that his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” (Verse 22)  Faith that fully trusts in God’s promises is the same kind of faith that saves.
