Here are Canyon Bible Church’s thoughts on the Supreme Court’s controversial decision on marriage:

Canyon Verde will not change its view on marriage.  The Supreme Court’s decision will not impact one thing that we teach, believe or practice here at Canyon Verde.  We will always strive to obey the perfect and eternal Word of God over the secular, Christ-dishonoring decisions of men.  Although we are saddened by the decision and we are grieved by the rejection of Christ by many people in our country, it is not a surprise that a world without Christ rebels against His commands.  2 Corinthians 4:4 says that Satan, the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who do not believe in Jesus.

Marriage is defined in Scripture as the union of one man to one woman for a lifetime.(Genesis 2:24-25)  Marriage is a beautiful picture of Christ and His bride, the church.  No human court has the authority to redefine marriage.  God created marriage and God defines marriage.  God will not be defeated in this recent ruling.  He is ruling and reigning.  His perfect will and sovereign plan will continue.  No force can stop Him and no human court can frustrate His plans.  (Job 42:2, Proverbs 21:30)

Canyon Verde is a Bible-Saturated Fellowship.  We will continue to strive to teach God’s Word without apology and encourage our church to act on Biblical truth.  At the same time, we encourage every believer to grow in love toward all people – even if their views disagree with ours (Ephesians4:15).  Remember that Jesus died on the cross and saved us while we were living in utter rebellion toward Him.  Last Sunday I shared Romans 5:8 during the teaching where Paul says, “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  No one is outside of the life-changing power of Jesus!

Canyon Verde is committed to being a lighthouse for the truth of God’s Word in our ever darkening community.  Here are a few ways that you can respond to these shifts in our culture:

  1. Pray for our nation, for our leaders and for our president.  If there has ever been a call to pray for our nation, it is now!  There is a call out to all 3 Canyon Bible Church campuses to earnestly pray for the supernatural light of Jesus to penetrate the darkened heart of those who Satan has deceived in order to draw them to a saving relationship with Jesus.
  2. Be a diligent student of the Word.  Get into the Bible on a regular basis.  Regular time meditating on the principles of God’s Word is critical for standing up for truth in our culture.  God’s Word provides the perfect balance of how God’s people can be both 100% truthful and 100% loving in a fallen world.  This supernatural balance can only come from the Holy Spirit and the power of God’s Word.
  3. Share the Love of Christ often.  Our prayer is that these latest developments will create even more opportunities to share the love of our Savior with those who are lost and dying without Him
  4. Prayerfully Vote.  We have the privilege of having free speech in our country.  Prayerfully consider the best candidate choices based on your study of God’s Word.  Be active in voting and exercising your right of free assembly and free speech.

Be assured that God is still totally in control.  These times might be growing more difficult, but Jesus is still on his throne and He has given us the victory!
